our story

From boat club roots to a lakeside experience

Nestled on the serene shores of Hartbeespoort Dam, the lakeside Boat House restaurant at Pecanwood Estate invites you to unwind and indulge in a dining experience like no other. Whether you’re savouring one of our signature dishes, a sizzling grilled favourite, or sipping on a signature cocktail, each bite is complemented by the panoramic lake and mountain views.

What began as a small Hartbeespoort Dam boat club in the Pecanwood Estate has transformed into one of the area’s most cherished dining experiences. In the early 2000s a handful of passionate boating enthusiasts and residents gathered here not for fine dining, but for their shared love of the water and sunset sails. The boat club was modest, offering little more than light meals, some drinks and the occasional grilled catch of the day shared among friends.

As the seasons passed, so did word of The Boat House’s charm. Locals came for the view, travellers stumbled upon its laid-back atmosphere, and guests began asking not just for coffee, but for meals that matched the warmth and beauty of the lake itself. What followed was a natural evolution, more than a renovation, it was a reinvention. The smell of woodsmoke was joined by the aroma of signature dishes and lakeside charm. The echo of laughter carried across the water as we added cosy dining spaces, expanded our menu, and brought on a passionate team of chefs and staff, all united by a love of the lake and great food.

Today, The Boat House stands as a full-service restaurant offering thoughtfully crafted cuisine, lakeside ambiance, and that same welcoming spirit we’ve held onto since the very beginning. So whether you arrive by boat, car or foot, you’re not just dining with us, you’re becoming part of our story.
