Tangaroa, The Strawberry Farm
our story
We are Tangaroa, The Strawberry Farm, at the foot of the Magaliesberg near the Hartbeespoort Dam. The farm is 9.4 hectares that was a sheep farm going back to 1881. We bought it in 1999 to get out of the city and planted 500 strawberry plants, and the patch kept growing from there.
We grow our strawberries organically. In season you can come and pick and eat as many as you like in the fields, and anything you take home is weighed at the rate on the day. Out of strawberry season there is sunflower, dahlia and zinnia picking on weekends.
Bring a picnic and spend the day by the dams, or order a basket from us ahead of time. There are shady spots, a jungle gym for the children and a labyrinth to walk with a view of the Witwatersberg.
The restaurant is open all year for breakfasts and light lunches, and for our strawberry milkshakes, waffles and cheesecake. The spa is open seven days a week by prior booking, and there are three guest rooms if you want to stay over.
